Community Health Centers of Pinellas, Inc., (CHCP) is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that has been providing affordable, quality primary healthcare services to the residents of Pinellas County since 1985.

CHCP provides Family and Pediatric Medicine, Women’s Care, and Dental Care. CHCP has quickly expanding dental department and we are currently looking for a dental assistant in our St. Petersburg location.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, provides a range of clinical, administrative, and staff support to a full-range dental services operation. Assists in the performance of dental procedures; prepares and maintains dental equipment and supplies in accordance with established protocol, policy & procedures, and standards, and assists in the coordination of day-to-day patient administration, records management, and office support activities.

STANDARD RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supports the Mission, Values and Vision of Community Health Centers of Pinellas, Inc.
2. Is accountable to ensure patient rights and ensures an environment that promotes the privacy, dignity and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment
3. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
a. Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, reports and/or corrects unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs
b. Confidentiality of all data, including patient, employee and operations data
c. Quality Improvement and compliance with all regular requirements
d. Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior
4. Supports and participates in common teamwork:
a. Cooperates and works together with all care team members, plans and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment
b. Remain calm and poised in urgent or stressful situations
c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, care team members or patients regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns
d. Promotes positive public relations with patients, visitors and the community
e. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene
f. Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds.
g. Effectively and efficiently completes all duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for knowing and following all dental policies and procedures, including documenting all patient interactions into EHR timely
2. Provides chair side assistance to dentist, residents, and students in the performance of dental procedures, to include operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic, and/or oral surgical procedures
3. Mix cements, pour models, prepare bleaching trays/mouth guards, and other lab work as needed
4. Work with faculty and staff to insure the delivery of aseptic dental care to patients
5. Able to take proper radiographs in a timely manner, while following safety guidelines
6. Instruct patients in oral hygiene in a manner appropriate to various age levels
7. Prepares, sterilizes, organizes, and sets up dental equipment, ensures that all dental instruments are cleaned, dated, and processed according to established clinic guidelines and standards
8. Assist in organizing and controlling the use of clinical supplies
9. Greet and prepare patients for treatment
10. Establish rapport with patient in order to relieve anxiety
11. Obtain overview of patient’s awareness of physical ailment and/or condition(s) and record information in
chart
12. Take and record blood pressure and sugar levels
13. Maintain daily records and patient charts
14. Provides patient with written material and verbal instructions at exams, treatment, and prevention
15. Collect patient data pertaining to clinical research
16. Perform expanded functions as assigned including but not limited to: fabrication of temporary crowns and
bridges intra-orally, applying sealants, taking impressions, applying topical fluoride, coronal polishing of
teeth, polishing restorations, placing temporary restorations, placing and removing rubber dam.
17. Effectively uses ADP to manage daily hours, while practicing punctuality and dependability
18. Able to complete daily, weekly and monthly tasks and sign off on them without being asked to do so by a
supervisor
19. Able to set up procedures with all basic, necessary supplies/instruments and has patient ready for treatment
using the proper PPE
20. Makes sure that patient forms are completed accurately, makes sure that consent forms are explained to and
signed by the patient prior to treatment, and provides written and verbal post-op instructions prior to
treatment
21. Practices safety in the treatment room by placing proper barriers on necessary surfaces at all times
22. Demonstrates use of proper PPE at all times in the dental clinic
23. Demonstrates proper handling of sharps/biohazard materials
24. Demonstrates proper asepsis techniques by preparing, sterilizing, organizing and setting up dental
equipment, ensuring that all dental instruments are sterilized, dated and processed according to established
clinic guidelines and standards
25. Able to present treatment plans and explain treatments to patients, parents, and/or guardians
26. Able to efficiently navigate and accurately enter data into an EHR
27. Takes vital signs when necessary and charts in EHR
28. Able to manage patient care by submitting and tracking patient pre-authorizations and referrals
29. Able to schedule and coordinate appointments according to patient’s treatment plan
30. Able to provide good customer service to the patient, and maintain a polite and accommodating composure
31. Effectively documents medical conditions, medications, special needs and places alerts when necessary
32. Maintains ongoing readiness for AAAHC, and meets quality standards within AAAHC
33. Follows all HIPAA and Compliance Program guidelines
34. Participates in monthly inventory process and works to conserve dental materials and supplies
35. Able to take an adequate dental impression with minimal waste of material
36. Able to take proper radiographs in a timely manner while following safety guidelines
37. Interacts positively and politely with care team members and supervisors
38. Maintains a clean/non-cluttered operatory, dental assistant office, lab and sterilization area
39. Additional job duties as required
40. May be required to work multiple locations
