Florida Dental AssistantThis (EFDA) Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification Course is designed to certify the dental auxiliary in the performance of expanded functions duties. It will include those duties which may be performed under the supervision of a dentist and for which formal training is required. This course is administered in accordance with the Florida Board of Dentistry rule 64B5-16.005. A minimum of three months of experience as a chairside dental assistant is required to attend this course.

This 16-hour (EFDA) Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification Course is for the dental assistant who has been formally trained by a licensed dentist in expanded functions tasks with a minimum of three months on the job training. Students in the (EFDA) Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification Course must be able to perform the expanded functions skills in a clinical setting and pass an online written exam with a grade of 75% or better to be issued a Florida (EFDA) Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification.

The (EFDA) Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification Course will be given in a hybrid/blended format. Half the course will be online and half will be in person in our facility. The instructional portion of the EFDA course will be available online for students to review the material and take the EFDA Certification test. A score of 75% or better must be obtained in order for the student to continue with the 8-hour clinical portion of the course in our facility. Once the online EFDA test has been completed, the student will then attend the second portion of the course in person in our facility to demonstrate their proficiency in the EFDA procedures. After both portions of the course are completed the student will be administered their Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification.

 

A Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification will be given upon demonstration of competency and satisfactory completion of a written and clinical test.

This class is an online blended class. Students must have access to a computer and Internet for the program. Also students must have basic computer knowledge to ensure proper operation of online class work.

  • Apply Dental Sealants
  • Place/Remove Dental Dam
  • Place/Remove Matrix Band
  • Place/Remove Retraction Cord
  • Place/Remove Temporary Restorations
  • Apply Liners and Bases
  • Suture Removal
  • Fabricating Temporary Crowns
  • Removal of Excess Dental Cement
  • 4 hole slow speed motor with a straight  attachment (for polishing  & making a temporary w/acrylic bur)
  • Acrylic bur
  • Temporary crown and bridge material (whatever material your office uses)
  • Temporary Cement
  • Prophy paste
  • Disposable prophy angle
    Alginate (enough for upper and lower impressions)
  • Plaster or stone (to pour Alginate Impression for Study Model)
  • Sealant Material
  • IRM and Cavit (any temporary filling material your office uses)
  • Base or Liner  (Fuji, Dycal, Ketac, whatever your office uses)
  • 1 Piece of Dental Dam Material
  • Safety glasses
  • Basic set up (mirror/explorer/cotton pliers/air-water tip)
  • Disposable saliva ejectors
  • Face mask

These items must be brought to class and are not provided by the school but can be rented for $50 the day of class. Bring enough supplies to use in the course, approximately 2 of each disposable item.

 

Once you register and make payment for a class you immediately have access to the study material and quiz for the course. The course has 2 Parts.

Part 1 – The Instructional Online portion of the course that is self paced. It includes all study material and the actual written tests for Certification. The quiz must be submitted online at least 48 hours before you can attend Part 2 of the course, the Clinical Hands-On portion that is given in our facility on the selected class date.

Part 1 is completed online, Part 2 is completed in our Facility on the selected class date.

The actual class date that is selected is the date you come to our facility for Part 2 of the course the “Hands On” portion of the course. Part 2  the “Hands On” portion involves demonstrating  your Dental Assisting skills. Once both Parts of the Course are completed you will receive your Certification; Part 1 – a passing grade of 75% or better on the Written online test and Part 2 – demonstrating your Dental Assisting skills in our facility on the selected class date.

You can take the written test from any device that can access the internet. The study material is a combination of Powerpoints and PDF documents.

Our business office must be notified in writing at least 7 days prior to the class start date of Part 2 – the Clinical Hands-on portion in our facility in order to transfer to another class date or a $100 transfer fee will be charged. To receive a refund the business office must be notified in writing and the refund will be based on the Cancellation and Refund Policy listed on your Registration Form you completed online and also listed on our FAQ’s page under Refunds for the 1 Day Courses. All Refunds omit 3% transaction charges that student pays when using credit card/ debit card.
