Description

This Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification Course is intended for dental assistants with at least three months of chairside experience and prior EFDA training under a licensed dentist. Students must already be proficient in EFDA procedures and must pass the online state board exam with a minimum score of 75%. Upon successful completion, graduates receive the Florida EFDA Certification, authorizing them to perform expanded duties under Florida Board of Dentistry regulations. This is a certification-only course and does not provide instructional training.

To legally perform dental assisting duties in Florida, dental assistants must hold both EFDA and Dental Radiology Certifications. Florida does not accept certifications from other states, and the DANB CDA credential is not recognized as a substitute. For official guidance, please refer to the Florida Board of Dentistry website and Expanded Duties FAQ page.

Students must have a minimum of three months of clinical experience, completed formal EFDA training under a licensed dentist, and be able to perform EFDA procedures independently.

An Employment Verification Form signed by a licensed dentist (any state or specialty) is required to confirm experience and competency. Students seeking training rather than certification should consider our 12-Week Dental Assistant Training Program.
