24 Hour Course: 17 Online Lecture Hours/7 Clinical Lab Hours in our Facility

9:00 am – 4:00pm (Part 2)

Minimum 3 Months Experience Required

This is a blended course with the instructional portion of both courses to be completed online BEFORE the class date and the clinical lab portion of both courses to be completed in person at our facility. A Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification (EFDA) and a Dental X-ray Certification will be given upon demonstration of competency in both the clinical lab portion and satisfactory completion of both online written tests.

REQUIREMENTS:

This Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification (EFDA) & Dental X-ray Certification Combo Course is for the dental assistant who has been formally trained by a licensed dentist in expanded functions duties with a minimum of three months on the job training. Students must be able to perform the Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification (EFDA) and Dental X-ray procedures in a clinical setting and pass an online exam with a grade of 75% or better in both courses to be issued a Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification (EFDA) and Dental X-ray Certification . This course is to certify that the dental assistant is knowledgeable in and able to perform the Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification (EFDA) and Dental X-ray procedures listed below. Dental Assistants must be able to perform clinical dental charting on paper in order to become a Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, a dental charting test will be given as part of the clinical lab portion of the course.

COMPUTER  AND INTERNET ACCESS:

This class is an online blended format class. Students must have access to a Computer and Internet for Part 1 at home  (not while in class). Also students must have basic computer knowledge to ensure proper operation of online class work.

A Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certification and a Dental X-ray Certification will be given upon demonstration of competency and satisfactory completion of a written and clinical test.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THE EFDA/COMBO CLINICAL LAB PORTION: (no supplies needed if taking only the Dental X-ray Course)

4 hole slow speed motor with a straight  attachment (for polishing  & making a temporary w/acrylic bur)
Acrylic bur
Temporary crown and bridge material (whatever material your office uses)
Temporary Cement
Prophy paste
Disposable prophy angle
Alginate (enough for upper and lower impressions)
Plaster or stone (to pour Alginate Impression for Study Model)
Sealant Material
IRM and Cavit (any temporary filling material your office uses)
Base or Liner  (Fuji, Dycal, Ketac, whatever your office uses)
1 Piece of Dental Dam Material
Safety glasses
Basic set up (mirror/explorer/cotton pliers/air-water tip)
Disposable saliva ejectors
Face mask
Disposable gloves (5 pairs)

Review the Performance Checklist (once registered) for the materials needed to bring to class, Whichever type of materials your offices uses for you to complete the procedures on the list. We have the mixing bowls, spatulas and instruments (besides Basic Set Up) You are needed to bring the Dental Materials. These items must be brought to class and are not provided by the school but can be rented for $50 for the day (purchase at registration). Bring enough supplies to use in the course, approximately 2  of each disposable item.

 

***PLEASE NOTE WE ARE REQUIRED TO INFORM YOU: FLORIDA DOES REQUIRE THAT ALL DENTAL ASSISTANTS HAVE 2 DENTAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATIONS BEFORE WORKING WITH PATIENTS. THEIR EXPANDED FUNCTIONS DENTAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATION (EFDA) AND DENTAL X-RAY CERTIFICATION.

IF YOU ARE ONLY TAKING THE X-RAY CERTIFICATION COURSE THEN YOU WILL ONLY LEGALLY BE ALLOWED TO TAKE X-RAYS. TO ACTUALLY WORK WITH THE DENTIST AND ASSIST HIM WITH DENTAL PROCEDURES YOU WILL ALSO NEED YOUR EFDA CERTIFICATION. FLORIDA DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY OTHER STATES CERTIFICATIONS.***

Once you register and make payment for a class you immediately have access to the study material and quiz for the course. The course has 2 Parts.

Part 1 – The Instructional Online portion of the course that is self paced. It includes all study material and the actual written tests for Certification. The quiz must be submitted online at least 48 hours before you can attend Part 2 of the course, the Clinical Hands-On portion that is given in our facility on the selected class date.

Part 1 is completed online, Part 2 is completed in our Facility on the selected class date.

The actual class date that is selected is the date you come to our facility for Part 2 of the course the “Hands On” portion of the course. Part 2  the “Hands On” portion involves demonstrating  your Dental Assisting skills. Once both Parts of the Course are completed you will receive your Certification; Part 1 – a passing grade of 75% or better on the Written online test and Part 2 – demonstrating your Dental Assisting skills in our facility on the selected class date.

You can take the written test from any device that can access the internet. The study material is a combination of Powerpoints and PDF documents.

To receive a refund the business office must be notified in writing and the refund will be based on the Cancellation and Refund Policy listed on your Registration Form you completed online and also listed on our FAQ’s page under Refunds for the 1 Day Courses. All Refunds omit 3% transaction charges that student pays when using credit card/ debit card.
