TAKE THIS COURSE

This EFDA & Dental Radiology Combo Certification Course is for dental assistants with at least three months of on-the-job experience and prior training in expanded functions and dental radiology. Students must demonstrate proficiency in EFDA and Dental Radiology procedures and pass both online exams with a minimum score of 75%. Upon completion, students will earn the Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) and Dental Radiology Certifications, qualifying them to perform these procedures as required by the Florida Board of Dentistry.

This course is designed for dental assistants who have:

  • Received formal training in expanded functions from a licensed dentist

  • Completed at least 3 months of on-the-job clinical experience

To qualify for certification, students must already be proficient in Expanded Functions and Dental Radiology procedures in a clinical setting.

Certification requires passing two online exams — one for EFDA and one for Dental Radiology — each with a minimum score of 75%.

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

  • Florida Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification

  • Dental Radiology Certification

This course confirms that you are trained and capable of performing all Expanded Functions and Dental Radiology tasks as required by the Florida Board of Dentistry.

Important:
As part of your clinical lab, you must complete a paper-based dental charting test will be administered to demonstrate your charting skills.

This course is divided into two parts: an online exam and an in-person clinical skills assessment.

Part 1 – Online State Board Exams

  • Includes the EFDA Exam (50 questions) and the Dental Radiology Exam (90 questions)

  • Study materials provided online (PowerPoints & PDFs)

  • Immediate access upon registration under “My Courses” on our website

  • Exams are self-paced, but must be submitted at least 48 hours before your scheduled hands-on session

  • A minimum score of 75% is required on both exams to pass

Part 2 – Clinical Hands-On Assessment (In Person)

  • Held at our training facility on the class date you choose at registration

  • You’ll perform all EFDA and Dental Radiology procedures independently — no instruction provided, but an instructor will be on site if you have any questions.

  • You must demonstrate proficiency in all required tasks to earn certification

Completion & Certification Requirements

To receive your certifications, you must:

  • Pass both online exams with a score of 75% or higher

  • Successfully complete the hands-on clinical evaluation

Once both parts are complete, you’ll be awarded your:

  • Florida EFDA Certification

  • Dental Radiology Certification

This hybrid certification course combines online learning with in-person evaluation. First, you’ll complete the online modules and state board exams for both the EFDA and Dental Radiology certifications (Part 1). Then, you’ll attend a hands-on clinical lab at our facility on the date you selected during registration (Part 2).

To earn your certifications, you must pass both exams with a score of 75% or higher and successfully demonstrate your ability to perform each procedure during the in-person lab.

You are eligible to take this course if you’ve completed at least three months of on-the-job training in a dental office and are confident in independently performing EFDA and Dental Radiology procedures. This is a certification course, not a training course, so you’ll be evaluated on the skills you’ve already learned. You’re welcome to complete each procedure using the method you were originally taught.

Before attending, you’ll need to submit an Employment Verification Form signed by a licensed dentist. This form confirms that you’ve worked under their supervision for at least three months and that you are capable of completing the required procedures independently.

Please note that this course does not provide instruction. It is designed solely to certify your competency in performing EFDA and Dental Radiology procedures as required by the state of Florida.

The total cost for the 1-Day EFDA & Dental Radiology Combo Certification Course is $900.

What’s Included

This course is divided into two required parts:

Part 1 is the online, self-paced exam portion. You’ll need to complete and submit both the EFDA and Dental Radiology state board exams through our website. These must be submitted no later than two days before your scheduled hands-on lab date. Passing this portion is required before attending the in-person session.

Part 2 is the clinical hands-on portion, held at our training facility from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. During this session, you’ll demonstrate your ability to perform both Expanded Functions and Dental Radiology procedures in a real clinical setting.

This course is delivered in a hybrid format, combining online learning with in-person assessment. To complete Part 1 successfully, students must have access to a computer with internet and be comfortable navigating basic online tools. The online portion includes study materials and the two required state board exams.

To help you get started, an Introduction Section is provided with clear, step-by-step instructions for completing the online portion before attending the in-person hands-on lab.

Important: Some students have experienced technical issues when using an Apple iPad to take the exams. For the best experience, we recommend using Google Chrome in an Incognito Window on a desktop or laptop computer.

  • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification

  • Dental Radiology (X-ray) Certification

Florida does not accept certifications from other states, as it does not participate in reciprocity agreements. Additionally, the CDA Certification from DANB is not accepted as a substitute for these required state credentials.
