Certification Overview

This course is divided into two required parts:

Part 1: Online Exam

You will complete the Dental Radiology state board exam online (90 questions). Study materials are provided upon registration, and the exam must be submitted at least 48 hours before your scheduled hands-on session. A passing score of 75% or higher is required to proceed.

Part 2: Clinical Assessment

This portion takes place in person at our training facility and evaluates your ability to perform dental radiographic procedures. You will independently demonstrate your skills, and clinical proficiency is required to earn certification. While this is not an instructional course, instructors are present throughout the session to provide support and answer questions if needed.

Once both parts are successfully completed, you will receive your Florida Dental Radiology Certification.

Dental Radiology Certification & Licensure

The course meets all Florida Board of Dentistry requirements for dental X-ray certification.

After certification, you’ll need to apply for licensure through the Florida Board of Dentistry. For questions about the application process, contact the board directly at (850) 245‑4474.

Important: After successfully completing the Dental Radiology Certification Course, students must submit their Dental Radiographer application to the Florida Board of Dentistry in order to receive their Dental Radiographer certification number. We recommend submitting your application as soon as possible after completing the course; however, applications must be submitted within one year of course completion. Applications submitted after one year may no longer be accepted by the Florida Board of Dentistry.

Academy for Dental Assistants is a Florida Board of Dentistry-approved education provider and is responsible for providing the required education and certification. However, the Florida Board of Dentistry is solely responsible for reviewing applications and issuing Dental Radiographer certification numbers. Academy for Dental Assistants is not responsible for application approvals, denials, delays, or decisions made by the Florida Board of Dentistry. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all information submitted with their application is complete, accurate, and current.

This course combines a self-paced online exam with a mandatory in-person clinical assessment. You must complete the online portion before attending your scheduled hands-on session.

Who Can Enroll

This course is for dental assistants who:

• Have at least 3 months of clinical experience
• Can perform dental X-ray procedures independently

You may perform procedures using the methods you were originally taught, as long as they meet clinical standards.

You must pass the online exam with 75% or higher and complete the hands-on assessment to earn your Florida Dental Radiology Certification.

Required Documentation

You’ll need to submit an Employment Verification Form signed by a licensed dentist. You can email a signed copy of this form to info@academy4da.com. This verifies that you’ve worked under their supervision and are competent in dental radiology procedures.

Note: This course is designed to certify existing skills, not to teach X-ray techniques. It meets the standards of the Florida Board of Dentistry.

The total cost of the 1-Day Florida Dental Radiology Certification Course is $350, which includes both the online exam and the in-person clinical assessment.

Part 1: Online Exam
You’ll complete the self-paced, state-approved exam through our website. It must be submitted at least 48 hours before your scheduled hands-on session.

Part 2: In-Person Assessment
The clinical evaluation takes place at our facility from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. During this session, you’ll demonstrate your ability to perform dental radiology procedures independently, without instruction.

This hybrid course includes an online exam followed by an in-person clinical assessment. To complete the online portion, you’ll need:

• A desktop or laptop with internet access

• Basic computer skills

• Google Chrome (preferred browser)

Study materials and a step-by-step guide are provided to help you complete the Florida State Board Dental Radiology Exam before attending your hands-on session.

Important:
Use Google Chrome in an Incognito Window on a desktop or laptop for the best experience.

Avoid using iPads or mobile devices, as they may cause technical issues during the exam.

Reviewing these videos before attending Part 2 is highly recommended to help you feel prepared and confident when performing the required procedures without instruction.

The state of Florida requires all dental assistants to hold two certifications before working with patients:

1. Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification

2. Dental Radiology (X-ray) Certification

Florida does not typically accept dental assisting certifications from other states, as the state does not have reciprocity agreements. In addition, Florida does not accept the CDA Certification from DANB as a substitute for state-required credentials.

To reschedule your Part 2 clinical session, you must notify the Business Office in writing at least 7 days before your scheduled class date. Requests made less than 7 days in advance will incur a $100 transfer fee.

Refund requests must also be submitted in writing and will be reviewed in accordance with the Cancellation and Refund Policy outlined in your online registration form.

Please keep in mind:

• All refunds are subject to a 3.5% credit/debit card processing fee
• A $25 nonrefundable registration fee will be applied to cancellations made after registration
• Both parts of the course must be completed within 90 days of registration
• After 90 days, course access expires, and no refunds will be issued
